Pinup girl with car, Intimate portrait in great Michigan outdoors

Pinup style intimate portrait in great outdoors of SW Michigan. Call it pinup, calendar girl, intimate, portrait, lifestyle intimate, outdoors sensual, all of these work.

When Shannon contacted me about doing her boudoir photos, she asked if she can bring her car with. Well, why not, we photographers, we like cars, they make a fabulous prop don't they?

I did not meet Shannon in person before the photo shoot, the whole thing was planned over the email. I did not know, that the car will be more than a prop. It's not just a car, it's Chevy Camaro, black with silver racing stripes. This is one hot car. Shannon loves her sexy black Camaro, she is proud of it and very protective and she loves to show it off.

I was hoping to have a nice weather for the shoot and take advantage of great fall colors SW Michigan offers this time of the year. We got lucky, Wednesday last week was the best weather any photographer can wish for. It was pleasantly warm, sun was softly filtered through the clouds, just beautiful and perfect for the outdoor shoot.

I found a nice little park in Stevensville, right off I-94, so convenient and still remote and private. Only few bird watchers were at the park, I am sure they pointed their binoculars in our direction few times, as you don't see sexy girl with hot Camaro in little parks around SW Michigan very often.

Otherwise we had the park all for ourselves. The outdoor offers so many wonderful opportunities for boudoir portrait. I don't know how to call the shoot, the boudoir just does not seem to describe the shoot properly. How about calendar girl since we will be doing also a calendar for Shannon? Calendar girl comes closer, but the style is not your typical calendar girls style. These are not calendar girl photos thought male photographer eyes, you know what I am talking about, right?
This is boudoir, calendar girl, pinup portrait, my way, it is intimate, feminine and sensual.

Engagement Photo Shoot in Chicago's Millenium Park

Engagement portrait with Chicago skyline in the background, from the walkway of Modern Wing of Art Institure of Chicago.

Gardens of Millenium park have many areas, where one feels away from it all, they are a perfect place for romantic date, proposal or engagement..

Walkway to Modern Wing of Art Institute of Chicago has great view of skyline, Millenium park and Pritzker pavillion.

Sexy Santa Pinup Portrait, Michigan and Chicago Area

Pin Up, Calendar Girl and Boudoir photography in MIchigan and Chicago area.
Gift giving season is near and with it the same dilemma as every year, "What to give to a husband who has everything?"

Try something new and fun this year, fun for your husband and fun for you as well. That's right, sexy boudoir shoot is nothing serious, it is just good old fashioned fun. You will have fun picking your outfit for your either sensual boudoir shoot or more playful pinup shoot. You will have fun time during the photo shoot and your husband will like this new gift more than anything before. Remind him what attracted him to you at the first place, add a little spark to your marriage, have fun, dress up like a sexy Santa or like somebody else, anything goes. No need to fight the crowds, no need to spend money for more stuff that fills the basement, instead give a gift of yourself, your playful feminine you.
You can make it even more fun and together with several of your girlfriends organize a Boudoir/ PinUp party with Sexy Santa theme.
For groups I travel anywhere in Michigan, Northern Indiana and Chicago area. The best location for Boudoir party is a nice hotel or B&B. You can make it an annual tradition and spend a weekend with your friends in scenic countryside of Southwest Michigan. Add some wine tasting along The Michigan Wine Trail, or visit Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo, treat yourself to facial and massage at one of areas great spas.
Now doesn't the PinUp photo shoot sound already like a great fun?

Chicago Engagement Photos, Millenium Park and Cloud Gate

While in town for Chicago Marathon, Joanna & Steve decided to have their engagement photos done in downtown Chicago and Millenium Park. Their wedding is next year at Blue Dress Barn, I can not wait, it is going to be a great party.

These images were shoot in the lobby of the Marriott hotel in downtown Chicago where Joanna and Steve stayed for the Marathon weekend. Yeas, Chicago Marathon was the reason they flew in from Phoenix, not me. They are one hot looking couple and we had so much fun during the shoot. I decided to use the lobby because it was too windy outside and wanted to get some intimate shots. It is hard to feel romantic when you are cold, so the colorful lobby was a great idea. Look at Joanna, she is one sexy runner.

How sweet it is ...

Steve is so romantic, like he stepped out of Sinatra era. How appropriate for Chicago enagagement shoot.

Joanna and Steve with Chicago skyline reflecting in Cloud Gate behind them.
I could spend hours and hour exploring the Bean and it's reflections. Many interesting angles to see the Chicago skyline and
incorporate people into the composition.

Saint Joseph Michigan Trash The Dress - Behind the Scenes

Last week we had great weather here in Saint Joseph for trash the dress on the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan.
Few behind the scenes images from a photo shoot with several out of town and one local photographer.

We also had a rainy day, perfect for trashing the dress. Luckily our cameras survived the rain.

John with Prem at the charming beach house rented for occasion.

Ben Pancoast showing Prem & Cheridy the amazing image he just captured.

Fun people and talented photographers that joined us were Jenni Vorderman, Denise DeMarchis and Jonathan Hartman . I wish I had more time to have fun with them, but the week was just crazy. Maybe we should plan the 2010 Shoot out in spring rather than fall.

My version of group portrait taken just before the sunset on the beach at Jean Klock Park.

Trash the Dress in SW Michigan Wine Country

Rolling hills of southwest Michigan, fall colors, rain, winery, wedding gown, beautiful bride, handsome groom, this combination would make any passionate photographer's heart beat faster.
Linzi with her husband Brice willingly trashed the dress in rain and mud of scenic area around Round Barn Winery.
Aren't these photos a beautiful memento to the love they share for each other?

Trash the dress can be done right after the wedding, several moths later, or even years later. Couple can trash the dress as a celebration of one year anniversary of their wedding. It does not have to be a real trashing. It can simply be a beautiful romantic and passionate portrait of the couple, placed in interesting environment. Here in Southwest Michigan, the options for trash the dress photo shoot can include scenic beaches on the shores of Lake Michigan, rolling hills along the Michigan wine trail, charming little towns with antique stores and vintage dinner in New Buffalo areas, fields and orchard all over the Southwest Michigan, or urban architecture of downtown Saint Joseph, Coloma, Buchanan or Three Oaks for example. Art district of Benton Harbor offers many interesting opportunities for Trashing the dress.
So don't just hang you dress in the closet, so it collect the dust. Put on your fabulous wedding gown and show it to world, go to town wearing your gown, go pick apples in your wedding gown, go to wineries, walk the beached of Lake Michigan shore, enjoy your dress like it was meant to be enjoyed.

Trash the Dress, Saint Joseph Michigan

Busy, busy, week with all the work and fellow photographer visiting for a fun shoot out. The first day we planned combination of bridal, bride and groom and beach shoot with a couple
Talented photographers from east side of the state, Cheridy and Prem Mukherjee of Arising Images, honored us with their visit and volunteered to be our models. Since from their own wedding they got only few very traditional images, it was a nice opportunity for them to get something creative and beautiful. Since they create beauty for others, they deserve to have wedding images they enjoy to look at, images they can proudly show off and which will remind them of their love for each other.
This shoot was covered by several photographers, each with different style and unique view of the world. How fun for Cheridy and Prem to have such a wide variety to enjoy. I am sure they will find something they love.
The session was planned the way, we photographers would like to be able to shoot with each of our couples. The shoot took 3 hours on 3 different locations. We all know how much time goes into planning and executing a shoot like this. This is not possible in 30 minutes that our couples have between the church and the ceremony.
We can only hope, that new modern generation will take an example from European and Australian couples. It is a common practice overseas to have photos of bride and groom done before the wedding. Several hours of alone time, strolling the downtown, or beach and enjoying the quiet time alone before the festivities start. It is not only a nice way to start the wedding day, it is also a guarantee for beautiful photos of couple together, expressing their feeling, when not disturbed by loving family and friends.

Our shoot started at beach restal in Saint Joseph, near the Silver Beach. We love the wonderful bright colors of the house. Next we took the couple to downtown St Joe, to explore back alleys, look for interesting architectural details, dramatic staircase and explore new ideas. Prem and Cheridy were great as models, because they understand that it takes talent and ideas are not enough for great photos. It takes light and time to make good photographs.
Here are only few images from downtown Saint Joseph for now. There will be more little later.

Affordable Wedding and Affordable Wedding Photography in Saint Joseph Area

New for 2010 is my flexible pricing for small informal weddings in Saint Joseph area.
Even though some couple's budget for wedding is small, they would still love their wedding to be an lovely event with beautiful photographs as a memento. Those who appreciate quality, value photography for its art and for it's emotional significance, those who want nice event even though their budget is small, with those couples I love to work.
To plan a beautiful wedding on small budget is not unrealistic. With some creative planning, non traditional ideas and flexibility, it is all possible.
First you have to choose the date and the time for the event. One can not expect to pay less for popular dates, popular time and popular location. But weddings do not all have to be on Saturday afternoon. If planning for Saturday, there is also morning and lunch time that would be perfect for informal beach wedding. Beach is the affordable and flexible option in Saint Joseph area with abundance of public beaches and parks. From top of my hear I know about 5 different beaches and parks that would be great for a wedding. Some outdoor locations are Riverview Park, Sarett Nature Center, Fernwood Botanical Garden, Jean Klock Park, Hagar Shore Beach.
From photographers view point, summer morning on the beach is very nice, much better for photos that early afternoon. For morning event, champaign and antipasti would be perfect, no sit down dinner needed. Add great music, beach views and you have elegant event that your guests will enjoy and you can afford. The photography coverage I would offer for event like this would be couple hours of coverage with modern story book album for bride and groom.
Friday and Sunday are also great days for the wedding.
For modern creative types, there are unique spaces in Benton Harbor and Saint Joseph area that would be great for the wedding. One of the unique venues that I know of and are very reasonably priced is Citadel Dance School and the other Studios @ 210 Water street. One is an auditorium and the other is an industrial building.
These are just some ideas, there is much more out there and for visionaries to possibilities are endless.

Wine Tasting - Karma Vista Winery

This past Sunday the weather was perfect for drive in the country. So off I went to explore some winery I never been to.
Short 15 minute drive from my house to Coloma, I found Karma Vista Winery.
You have to check them out. Tasting room has beautiful scenic view, is nice and modern with cool gifts and nice selection of wine.
The most original are their wine labels. You will want to buy a bottle just because of the label. That's what I did. I purchased a blush wine, called " The pink side of the moon". Isn't it fun?

The photos document the fun tasting experience. When drinking outside on nice sunny day, look at your glass. The world around you is reflected in the wine, but it is upside down. And as looking at world though rose colored glasses, that's how feel when drinking "Pink side of the moon".

Is your glass half full,

Or half empty?

And this fun quote I found while tasting

"Wine improves with age. The older I get, more I like it ."

Trash the Dress, Saint Joseph Michigan

Trash the dress shoot on the beach in Saint Joseph, MI and countryside with wineries and fields.

" Day after" the wedding, when music stopped playing and all the guests have left, there is two of you alone to enjoy this special day.

This is your first day as husband and wife, so let's put the fabulous wedding dress on once again and head for the beach or field of flowers to enjoy and celebrate this beautiful moment.

This is what Sarah & Garen did and I was the privileged one to document it.

New Wine from Contessa Wine Cellars

My favorite season is here. Yes, fall is here and it is beautiful.
To kick of the season, I went for a ride in the country yesterday. The goal was to buy local apple cider, fresh, first press of the season and find new places of interest in Coloma area.
I discovered, there is a back road to my favorite farm in and it is so pretty and scenic, much better than the highway I used to take. It only takes 15 minutes to get to Fruit Acres Farm in Coloma when I take this road. I drive by several favorites of mine, Blue Dress Barn, Chocolate Garden, Jollay Orchards with haunted house and Contessa vinery. I drove by this vinery before, but never stopped for a wine tasting. Yesterday I did, since I was looking for new and interesting places to take my friends who will visit soon.
The tasting room of Contessa Wine Cellars has a great view, you can sit on the patio, sip your wine and enjoy the scenery. Karen, the tasting room manager was very nice and helpful to educate me about Contessa wines.
I found few that I really like and one bottle made it home with me. It was enjoyed later on my little pation.

More from Sarah & Garen's wedding reception.

Saint Joseph MI Outdoor Wedding

Sarah & Garen long anticipated wedding in St Joseph finally arrived and it was everything one can wish for, from perfect weather to beautiful outdoor setting. Sarah was stunning in her elegant lace dress and together with Garen they made a great couple.
To accommodate the large wedding party, they rented the party bus to take them from the church in Saint Joseph to North Pier for pictures. This is where Garen proposed to Sarah and the Pier with lighthouse has a special meaning for two of them. From Tiscornia beach the party bus took them to the reception site in Stevensville.
Catering was provided by Cravings Catering in Stevensville and the entertainment by Nicolas Hardy from Custom Audio Services.
Guests entertained themselves if not in bar or dancing, than playing bean bag toss game or strolling the property.
Did I say how beautiful the setting was? How brilliant of Sarah's parents to offer their property in Stevensville for the wedding reception. What can be better than this?
We took only few pictures of Sarah & Garen at the reception site on the wedding day, because the next day was our fun day together, they had the Day after shoot schedules. So stay tuned for more fun pictures with this great couple.

MONIKA PHOTO = MONIKA CABAN photography

I would like to clarify, once for all, that these two names both represent Me.
I started my business under my first name, Monika, and Photo as short for photography. It became little confusing, because some people thought Photo is my last name. Well, I decided to go with my full name and word photography.
I think it is clear now who I am and what I do.

Also I would like to point out, that since I am a photographer, I use my blog to show My work. Therefore all photographs posted on my blog are done by Me.
Some of you might wander why am I saying this? It came to my attention that some people are looking at my photographs and don't realize I took them.
I know, it puzzles me as well.
Sorry, for being frustrated, but to have a blog takes lots of work and time and if it is not serving the purpose it should, it is my time and energy wasted.
So should I continue blogging, or should I stop?

New Compass Fountain in St Joseph is Open

Our new attraction, Compass fountain, opened today. Just in time for the new wave of nice summery weather we got this weekend.
Today, Compass fountain was a popular cooling spot for young as well as young at heart. I am sure many out of towners who are visiting Saint Joseph this weekend for Tri State Regatta, are enjoying our new attraction as well.
Next time I am going without my camera, wearing shorts and flip flops. Fun :)

Whittaker Woods wedding

Jeanna did a very good job choosing hair stylist and make up artist for her wedding day. She went with one of the top hair salons in New Buffalo area, Heat & Company.

It was all worth it, the place is not only modern and comfy, their staff is truly excellent at what they do. Jeanna's hair was beautiful and the make up was perfect as well. Even though last Saturday was the hottest and most humid day, hair an make up up lasted all day and looked perfect at midnight when I was leaving.

Heat & Company is an Aveda concept salon and as we all know, Aveda products are really superior. Make up and hair are together with the dress the most important parts of your wedding day look. It is important to choose your stylist and make up artist with care. You won't be sorry that you did.

Wedding Photographer for Mill Creek Barns

Fall is a wonderful time for country wedding in Southwest Michigan.
I am sure there are many reception halls that look good in fall, but my favorite is The Blue Dress Barn. Those who visited Blue Dress Barn or new Mill Creek Barns in fall will have to agree with me that the fall colors together with romantic country charm of both barns, make for a lovely wedding in Southwest Michigan.

I was very excited when I first heard about the new Mill Creek Barns project. And I was the first photographer to take pictures of the venue before it was completely finished and Amy together with Kirby were still working together to make the place available for this season. Many couples visited my blog for visual reference about the venue. How convenient for long distance brides to be able to see how the venue they would like to book for their wedding looks like. I was glad my blog post is helpful.
I am not so happy about it now, because I have no wedding booked at Mill Creek Barns for this season.

I would very much like to change this. I am sure there are still couples who did not book their photographer for Mill Creek Barns. So to those brides, who will have wedding this fall, in October or November at Mill Creek Barns, those brides I would like to remind about my existence.
I still have dates open this fall and would very much like to add Mill Creek Barn on the list of my favorite wedding venues. To make things easier for couples with limited budget, I offer coverage by the hour now. You will be able to use my services for as long, or as short as you need. No need to have a 6 hour package if you only need a wedding photographer for few hours.
Every couple will receive a FREE brag book with the selection of best images from the wedding. So remember to call me if you are looking for a wedding photographer for your 2009 fall wedding at Mill Creek Barns.

Croissants from Phoenix Cafe

Previously I posted images of those yummy chocolate croissants. Where do they come from?
You can taste them at Phoenix cafe in Benton Harbor Art district, just around the corner from my place. They are freshly baked in house every morning and they are gone by noon most of the days. But don't despair if you miss them, there are other delicious items on the menu as well. Here are few that I tasted, ham and cheese croissant, panini, Greek yogurt with honey, soups, salads, egg salad and deviled eggs, fresh carrot juice and let's not forget really good coffee. Stop for breakfast or lunch when you are in area and you won't be disappointed.
The address is 124 Water St, Benton Harbor

Wall Without the Trees

As of today, this charming still life does not exist anymore. In the effort to beautify the Art District of Benton Harbor, somebody thought that this wall would look better without the trees?!
Makes you wander about the esthetic vision of some people. If this trend continues, I will have many unique images of historical value.
I do not want to be heartbroken, therefore I am trying not to get attached to any nice spot that I use for my photo shoots, they might not exist tommorow.

Summer Beach Boudoir or Swimsuit Photo Session

I have miles and miles of beaches available for summer outdoor boudoir session, or swimsuit photo shoot.
Take advantage on warm weather, while the water has a nice temperature and we can shoot in the water as well.
For the best light, I prefer early morning. It also assures, that I have the beach all for myself.
Since I make you wake up very early and you don't have time for a breakfast, I treat you to one.
And what would be more appropriate for steamy hot photo shoot, than the most decadent chocolate croissant you ever had, paired with your choice of cappuccino or late.

Oak Auditorium of Citadel

The other day, when there was nobody using the Oak auditorium of Citadel dance center, I decided to explore the beautiful light that comes thought the windows in the late afternoon.
It was really magical, so peaceful and beautifully lit. Resident cats kept me the company and they even posed for me.
It takes only a little imagination to see this great space transformed into elegant place for an intimate wedding.
As I mentioned before, the Oak Auditorium of Citadel Dance Center is available for private events. The oak floor, stage with grand piano, windows all around with curtains that allow to control how much light to let in, these details make it an interesting space and a joy for the photographer to work in.

Winter Wedding Photo Package

GRAND OPENING + WINTER WEDDING = SAVING $$ ON WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

With new venue opening in Saint Joseph at the end of 2009, the winter weddings will be as scenic as the summer ones.
For the occasion of Grand opening I will offer "Winter photo package" for weddings from January through March 2010.
Saving money on your wedding photography this winter will keep you feeling warm and fuzzy.

Fun and Creativity

The funniest image from Anna & Dave wedding is this one of Anna while she is getting dresses.
She had two pairs of earrings to choose from. The pair from the grandma did not make the cut, but Anna still wanted to have it on her as "something old". The clever girl she is, she found the safe place to keep the grandma earrings, INSIDE HER BRA! To have a proof of it, she even pointed the video camera down her cleavage to document the location of "something old". Isn't she a fun bride?

Other two images are from a creative experiment. They are not in couples collection, it is just a personal project. At every wedding, when time allows and creativity strikes, I try something creative. This time,it was Patrick who captured something that I really interesting. It was the lens he was using that allowed for this effect.
I will have to borrow his lens and his idea the next time and see if I can produce something cool like he did.

Saint Joseph Engagement photos, Beach and urban

Engagement photos shoot in Art district for cool urban shots and Saint Joseph North Pier for the must shot with the Lighthouse.

The engagement photos of Sarah & Garen turned out really good. They are not even aware what a hot couple they make. Maybe these images will convince them.

Even thoug Garen was in rush to see the hockey game, he still patiently put up with my never ending ideas. And Sarah did not mind walking wherever I told her to, even though wearing these amazing stilettos. She is adorable.
We got a really nice variety of urban and colorful images, fun and full of passion.
Thank you guys, can not wait for the wedding.

Fall of the Colorful Wall is Near

Just when I discovered the amazing colors of this building, I have to get used to the idea that it won't be with us for much longer. As the Art district of Benton Harbor is being beautified, I am afraid many cool buildings will be gone. I am disappointed, I moved to Art district because of the character of the architecture among the other things.
I know, I can not stop the change, so only thing I can do is to hope for the slow progress and enjoy what is while it still exist.

Maybe it is only me, us photographer would like to leave everything old, so we have a cool background for our photos.

If you like the colors of this building and would like to have it in your graduation portrait or engagement photos, you better hurry up and book your session quickly. You don't know when the "Wall is going to fall".

On a positive note, this will assure your images are really unique :)

Engagement photo shoot on the beach in Saint Joseph

Everybody likes downtown St Joseph for their engagement photos and the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan as well.

What a cute couple Ashley and Corey make. And hoe pleasant and relaxed they both are. I can tell their wedding will a great one. For their engagement photos we started in downtown Saint Joseph and then Tiscornia beach for some pier and lighthouse images. I also wanted to show off the almost finished Jean Klock park. It was well worth it, both Ashley and Corey thought the beach is fabulous. And not only that, on the beach we found this cool house like structure built from the driftwood , no nails or ropes were used. It took some architectural skills to build it, pretty neat.
I am sure these images will inspire all kind of stories in the future with topics ranging from first house of Ashley and Corey to crew in Cast away.

Monday Evening Storm

Monday evening there was a storm with dark scary looking clouds forming over Lake Michigan. I had a great view from my kitchen windows to admire the nature's show. It took not even 5 minutes for storm to reach the shore and move fast inland.
I never seen amazing clouds from such perspective. Even though it was scary, it was fascinating as well. I had to go out to take few shoots, even though I a scared of lightning. It was well worth it.

Last Saturday the weather cooperated after all and the ceremony was held outside. Anna was very happy about that, as were the butterflies that the couple released during the ceremony. We were able to take advantage of beautifully landscaped property for the wedding party, and bride & groom pictures. I love the the little pond with the boat.
I always enjoy romantic country setting, don't I? But I also enjoy a fun party and look at these party pictures, aren't they having fun?
I have to say that Anna and Dave not only make a great couple, they also know how to party.

Saturday Wedding

Dance School is My New Home

I found a wonderful place and made it my new home. Nested in the Art district of Benton Harbor, between my studio at 210 Water St, new Citadel Music school , Waterstreet Glassworks and Phoenix Cafe with best chocolate croissants.
The coolest thing is, the building houses the dance school, Citadel dance school of Benton Harbor that is. It is so appropriate for me to live here, I love music and dance and I used to watch ballroom competitions on TV with my mom when I was little. Was captivated especially by Latin dances and dreamed of being a dancer one day. Too late for that, but at least I can try some dance lessons. It only takes to go downstairs and there I am, in a ballroom.
Another cool fact is that this fabulous ballroom is available to rent for events. There is a stage, grand piano, mirrors and windows all around. I can see a small elegant wedding held here or an original one with theater theme. So check it out, you might be pleasantly surprised and you can get an in house photographer to go with your wedding.
More picture of the interior coming soon.

Lemon Creek Winery Art Fair

Memorial weekend Art Fair at Lemon Creek Winery.
Nice weather, wine tasting, music and art, what a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. And since among the exhibitors were several fellow artists from Studios at 210 Water St, I decided to visit the winery yesterday.
Angi with beautiful silver jewelry was there, Vicki with her copper, silver and beach stone jewelry, and Sandi and Teri from Your Bohemian Life with jewelry and knitted pashminas. One of the pashminas caught my eye and it traveled back home with me. It is great to wear over the summer dress, as a scarf in colder weather, or anytime as a hip accesory. Another cool discovery was Grant, young talented guy, who makes fun metal flowers and funky small creatures for your garden. His website is a work in progress.

Beach and Blossoms

For her graduation portrait, Evelyna wanted pictures on the beach. Even though it was not a nice sunny day, she braved the elements and she talked me into walking on those large boulders they have at New Buffalo beach. I know, when you are young and carefree, it is a fun, but not when you are a photographer and worry about falling and breaking your leg, or even worst, your camera.
I survived and was reminded of times when I used to do the same thing when vacationing as a kid in Croatia.
We had fun and Evelyna did not stop laughing. Once off the boulders, I was laughing as well, because she just made me laugh. I had to control myself though, because laughing creates camera shake and you know what that means? Blurry pictures! I have few of those as a proof of fun shoot with great girl.

And since it is May, the time for blooming trees, we wanted to have those included as well. After the rain and wind we had, there are not many bloossoms left. We were lucky to find one tree with flowers still on, right in downtown New Buffalo, by the main road, next to Subway. We got, or rathar Evelyna did, a lot of attention and car honking from cars passing by. That is the charm of small town like New Buffalo, nothing gets unnoticed.

Today I Miss Croatia

Is the day I will travel back to Croatia near? How many years it has been since I did visit this beautiful country the last time? About 29 years! The breathtaking country I loved so much, I did not see for 29 years!
Today I found on iTunes station with great music from Balkan, "Radio Orlovi". That music awakened all kinds of feelings. While listenning to the music, very loud I have to say, I opened the website with slide show from Croatia and traveled back in time, back to my bellowed Croatia.

Treat for the Gloomy Day

One of the rituals of my self appreciation is to treat myself to a GOOD chocolate.
Eating European chocolate when growing up, I thought I know what a good chocolate is.
Who would think, that one of the best chocolates of the world, I will find in Michigan. You don't believe me, I know. I did not believe, until I tasted it.
One of the activities I like to do, is to explore. And what is more fun than exploring, when at the end there is a delicious food waiting. So off I went, to find The Chocolate Garden. And the rest is a history, the new convert was born.
This weekend, I was even lucky to meet the owner, lovely woman who is behind this sweet booming business. I can appreciate what does it take to be a female entrepreneur, and my admiration goes to those who persevere and succeed.

Back to the chocolate now. My favorite truffle, because these are a handmade truffles in many varieties, not your ordinary chocolate bars, my favorite is Solera Double Gold. Intrigued by the deligtfull flavor of this particular one, I wanted to finally taste the sherry, that goes into the making of this truffle. I decide to visit St. Julian winery in Paw Paw.
Now equpiped with bottle of Solera Cream Sherry and handmade truffles from Chocolate Garden, I was ready to face the gloomy weekend, or celebrate the sunny one.

The progression of tasting is documented in these photographs

My New Loveseat

I am so excited about the new edition to my studio, the beautiful antique loveseat. With its wonderful forms and lovely pink brocade, it will be a popular backdrop for portraits as well as great place to chat with friends, read a book, or rest after the photo shoot. I am sure it will be popular with my high school seniors as well. The romantic loveseat goes well with everything and jeans look esspecially good with the pink antique fabric.
So come see me and my new pink loveseat at my still new studio at 210 Water St in Benton Harbor.

Self Portrait

As the case is for most photographers, I don't have many pictures of myself.
Is it because we forget about ourselves? Or maybe we like to hide behind the camera?
As my birthday is approaching I decided to correct this and create some self portraits while I am still younger LOL

Favorite from today session.

Exploring with Julie

What else did I do in Vegas besides listening to amazing photographers and learning? I was exploring the town, during the day, during the night, whenever I had time. My last day, when the speakers were done at noon, I had the whole afternoon to enjoy the beautiful sunny day. And this was the first opportunity for me and Julie to do something together.

Who is Julie? Julie was my roommate. We met on forum, both looking to save money and share the room during the WPPI. I was very lucky to find the sweet girl like her. She is cute and her french accent is absolutely adorable. Why french accent? Because Julie is a photographer from Montreal, Canada. So if you are in that area in need of photographer, look her up. I am sure you will be charmed by her as I was.

So the last day we went to explore together. First we took a bus to old down town, it was a nice way to see the whole strip.
Found a small restaurant, charming, with older man playing a piano. On the way back we stopped at Venetian. At home I was joking that I am going to see the fake Venice. Well this fake Venice was pretty impressive. It was as beautiful as real one, much smaller, but a real feast for a photographer. We completely lost track of time, excited about beautiful picture opportunities, reflection of light from marble, play of the shadows on palazzo floors.

Cute one is Julie, I am the one in tye-die T shirt.

Who Is My Inspiration

From many great photographers around the world, I choose few as my inspiration.

My all time inspiration is Joe Buissink.
This year at WPPI in Vegas, I found two amazing photographers, whose work touched me, whose personality spoke to me and whose work is absolutelly amazing, Cliff Mautner and Parker J..

I noticed, that all great photographers and those who I admire have few things in common, they are people with heart, they have empathy and compassion for others, they are passionate about their art and they have brilliant mind.

So contrary to public thinking that anybody can be a wedding photographer, I say maybe, but only few will be great.

Exciting New Products

I am too excited not to share this great news.
New coffee table books and albums I saw in Vegas were out of this world. I was excited about my last album and did not think anything can top that. To my surprise, there is always something bigger and better out there. Prepare yourself to be amazed.
New albums should be available this summer and coffee table books in spring.

WPPI Convention

Recovering from five day intensive learning and walking experience. This was my first time at the WPPI convention and first time in Vegas too. When registering for convention, I had no idea that not only will I get tremendous amount of information, but I will loose some weight as well. What a deal!
As the sign in the long walkway from MGM hotel to convention center said "FDA approved WPPI weigh loss program", it was not a joke, but reality.
So what else did I do besides walking? I listened to many amazing photographers, who shared, taught and inspired. I made new friends and let's not forget that also I spent too much money in Starbucks.
When looking at the snow outside my window, I can not believe, that few days ago I was among palm trees and blue sky.
Let's go back in time, back to nice warm days and brightly lit nights of Las Vegas.

To be continued...

Beautiful Winter Day

Today's warm temperature started to melt the snow on the ground as well as frozen Lake Michigan.
It is about time to post the images I took during one beautiful winter day. It was not long time ago, in January, when we had brutally cold temperatures, tons of snow and lake was frozen. As cold as it was, it also was very pretty. Soon the days like this, will be only a distant memory. Before that happens, let's remember the beauty of winter.
I took following images around my studio and down by the lake.
